New Year's Cake Decorating Ideas
A vanilla, double layer, 7″ cake is decorated with New Year's toppers, and shimmery gold and silver candies. This semi-homemade New Year's dessert DIY is easy enough for anyone to pull off. Thank you, Color It Candy™ for sponsoring today's post.
Believe it or not, the New Year is right around the corner. I cannot believe we are entering another decade! It feels as if we were just anticipating Y2K and all the havoc it was supposed to wreak. Now, 20 years later we are getting ready to ring in the year 2020.
Our family typically celebrates the New Year low-key style. We do not go out to any parties and normally enjoy Chinese food at home and some snacks–both sweet and savory.
I thought it would be cute to style a plain, vanilla store bought version with some magical touches. I found this 2020 cake topper on Amazon and the little star toppers there as well. The fluffy burst toppers are from Target.
But, the most prominent touch my dessert is adorned with comes from Color It Candy. Their Shimmer Gold Sixlets are also available in silver and really made this POP. I also used Shimmer Gold Pearls and Shimmer gumballs in gold and silver.
A QUICK New Year's Eve Dessert
This New Year's Eve dessert is super simple. Be sure to call your local bakery and order your cake at least 24-72 hours in advance. The displayed one is a 7″ vanilla bettercream (whipped).
Ingredients
- 7″ double layer cake
- 5 Shimmer Gold Gumballs
- 5 Shimmer Silver Gumballs
- 1/2 cup Shimmer Gold Pearls (1 jar)
- 1/4 cup Shimmer Gold Sixlets (1 tube)
- 1/4 cup Shimmer Silver Sixlets (1 tube)
- Gold Shimmer Sugar
Supplies
- Star shimmer picks
- Starburst picks
- 2020 New Years Cake Topper
- Edible Gold Fleck Stars
Make a New Year's Cake
Remove cake from the plastic and set it on a decorating stand.
Choose the best facing side, and adhere one gumball to start. You will base the burst of gold and silver color off this space. I wanted to have mine fade in so I did not cover the whole cake.
Keep adding gumballs, Sixlets, and Pearls–alternating between each.
Once you are satisfied, flick the gold fleck stars onto the sides of the cake. You want them to be subtle, yet elegant.
Then, alternate at the star tip patterns (every one inch) between a gold and silver sixlet.
Fill in the top middle with gold sanding sugar.
Add the remaining gold Pearls.
Cut the topper stem about 3″ since it is very long.
Find the center of your cake and add in it.
Add the starburst puffs, and the shimmer star picks.
Voila, your New Year's Eve masterpiece is now done! Enjoy!
